Life and Love and Why

Friday, June 13, 2008

As each day passes by here at Cookson, I realize more and more why I’m supposed to be here this summer.

I left at 7:00 a.m. with the work team from Chapelwood UMC in Houston, Texas. The work team ripped off the old shingles on the house earlier this week and finished putting on the new shingles today. They also worked on a room inside the house. While I didn’t put shingles on the roof, I helped cut some of the shingles and clean a room inside the house. All of the manual labor I did today really made me so grateful for all the people who work like that every day.

It was really awesome how the weather forecast had been calling for rain every single day this week—which would have dampened the teams work schedule—but it didn’t start raining until this afternoon when the team was literally nailing in the last shingle. I think there’s a saying that coincidence is God’s way of staying anonymous. I really enjoyed getting to know this team from Texas.

All of their stories, all of their smiles, and all of their lives truly affected my life. I made a trip to the lumber store with Ginny, the Director of Single Adult Ministry at Chapelwood UMC. It was so awesome hearing about all the programs that Chapelwood offers and all the activities going on.

While I probably won't see any of these beautiful people again, they will always stay in my heart.

Hi Meredith,
Isn't it wonderful how God puts people in our lives! I'm sure you will miss these folks, but I bet there just might be another group to pass through your life next - all for a reason - not yet known. Keep the faith and keep on sharing.
In Christ,
